Pedestrian zone, decorative pavement

Pavement, decorative concrete surface

Pedestrian zone - promenade - finished with Pressbeton® decorative concrete. Here "Irregular stone" pattern was utilized. Numerous colours and patterns are available.

Promenade decorative pavement

Project name: Port Puławy Park, Poland, Puławy, Portowa St.

Technology: Pressbeton® decorative concrete

Project typy: pavement, pedestrian zone, promenade, cycling path

Investor: Puławy City Council

General contractor: Mota Engil

Year built: 2012

Why decorative concrete for walking-cycling route?

With area of 7000 sq.m to be paved - investor gained considerable savings by choosing stamped decorative concrete, instead of prefabricated pavers. Pressbeton® is quicker to build, compared to tradictional block paving work (busily placing each particular paver in its place).

Notice that this is sloping embankment area. Poured Pressbeton® has an edge here over prefabricated block pavers or flagstone. With minor earth and subbase falls, Pressbeton slab will survive and won't collapse. This is to be discussed with a designer and additional reinforcement - Baumex® fibre - is recommended when conditions are difficult. Earth falls are almost unavoidable here, no matter because of workers' errors or because of downpours happening over years to come.

Pressbeton® colors and patterns

Combining patterns and colors is both possible and recommended. Simply: contractor is asked to bring hardeners in multiple colors as well as multiple molds (stamp forms). Unlike prefabricated concrete, there is no need for laborious concrete cutting here.

Granite-like texture - can be noticed on the video - both light-grey hardener and graphite form release agent had been applied - thus granite-like paving was created = Two shades had been mixed.

Need decorative concrete system for pedestrian zone or sidewalk? Cycling trail, walking route, promenade?

Compacted gravel subbase

Compacted subbase, edging boards installed before pouring concrete slab. Soon after concrete is poured, vibrated and smoothed, pattern will be stamped. Check all the above steps pictured.

Stamping concrete

Stamping freshly laid concrete. "Stone slab" pattern was used - check remaining patterns.

Bicycle path

Walking - cyling path, original and pretty appearance. Pressbeton®, shallowly stamped, makes near ideal paving for bicycle roads. Minimal grooves typical of block paving, reduce bicycle tyre resistance.

Walking trail, grass

Light pressbeton paving matches intensive greenery of grass, although photo was taken early April. In May, with vegetation in its full, this place will be nice.

Wheelchair ramp

Pressbeton® is great for sloping surfaces, e.g. wheelchair ramp, visible on a photo. No waste material is produced here, neither laborious cutting is necessary, while these operations are typical for concrete prefabricated elements laid on narrow and winding paths.

Embankment promenade

Why to utilize decorative stamped concrete on a river bank pedestrian zone or in park? The paving looks nice. With large areas to cover Pressbeton® is chepaer to build than block paving or flagstone surfaces. Pressbeton® is (to certain level) resistant to subbase flaws nad rains washing away ground. There is no waste material related to cutting prefabricated elements. It is easy to combine multiple patterns and colors, and the palette itself is wider than with most prefabricates.
