Concrete flooring at biogas power plant
Project name: Biogas plant
Technology: Multitop® Enduro hardened concrete flooring, sealed with Bauseal® Enduro sealer
Possible use: biogas plant, shop, recycling plant, municipal solid waste incineration plant
The depicted building, fitted with Bautech industrial flooring, is located next to biogas anaerobic digesters. The interior serves as a power plant, although power generators had not been fitted yet; only pumping system is visible on photos. In general biogas facilities serve as power plants that transform MSW (municipal solid waste) into electric energy and heat.
What makes hardened concrete a great flooring technology for biogas plants?
- resistance to point loads - as seen on photos: steel structure bolted to monolithic flooring, e.g. 20 cm thick concrete slab.
- concrete's tightness - the floor cannot easily be penetrated by water and is resistant to such chemicals as oil, alcaline detergents, bleach, ethyl alcohol, coolants.
- wear and tear resistance - biogas power plants are estimated to last a few decades, and this is how long concrete floor will endure - with proper maintenance (periodic sealing).
- price - 1000 m2 building requires a cost efficient flooring system; other flooring types, including resins, won't match concrete's price.
